The Pathways Learning Network met on October 25 to learn about strategies for implementing Handle with Care, a model that helps law enforcement partner with schools and daycare centers to notify teachers and childcare workers when a child has been present at the scene of a traumatic event. CLICK HERE for a full summary of the strategies discussed.

With just a little information, teachers and childcare workers can help mitigate negative effects caused by children’s exposure to trauma.

During this session, participants heard from Andrea Darr, the founder of Handle With Care; Becky Haas, an experienced law enforcement trainer; Teri Lawler, who is leading the work in trauma-informed practices and social emotional learning at the Delaware Department of Education; and Zoe Lyons, who has implemented Handle With Care as Director of the Jackson County Office of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. Each shared insights about how the program has become a promising cross-sector and trauma-responsive practice in their state.
