Tanya Schwartz, MPP, MSW

Pathways to Resilience 

Tanya Schwartz, MSW, MPP serves as Director of the Pathways to Resilience initiative. Tanya is a national expert in the potential harmful effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and other adversities, evidence-based strategies for preventing and addressing toxic stress, and in building community networks of care to promote health and well-being.

Tanya supports state and local government, health care providers, and community-based organizations on their journey to becoming healing-centered and trauma-responsive – both for their staff and for the individuals they serve. She oversees the Pathways to Resilience Expert Advisory Committee composed of leaders from around the country. Tanya also developed and leads the Pathways workshop series which can be customized for organizations and audiences.

Tanya works with the Ohio Department of Youth Services; the Montgomery County (Ohio) Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board; and the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO). She also supports state and local efforts around the country to improve maternal and child health policies and programs and school-based behavioral health services.

From 2019-2022, Tanya co-led the California ACEs Aware initiative on behalf of the Office of the California Surgeon General and the California Department of Health Care Services. She previously held positions at Manatt Health Solutions, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, and Washtenaw United Way. Tanya also served as a Primary Instructor at the University of Michigan for an undergraduate course on social justice issues for youth, which included overseeing a mentoring program with youth in the community.

Tanya started her career working with low-income youth. She has a Master’s of Social Work and a Master’s of Public Policy from The University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s degree from Bates College. She is based in Annapolis, Maryland with her husband, two kids, and their dog Argo. In her free time, Tanya coaches youth sports teams.
