“I don’t think change happens without hope… and our experience in this work has given us evidence to show people that there is hope.” — Tracey Quillen Carney, Delaware
Tracey Quillen Carney, the First Spouse of Delaware, serves as Chair of the Pathways to Resilience Steering Committee, comprised of seven Governors’ First Spouses who are champions for trauma-responsive policies and programs in their states — from fighting childhood hunger to building trauma-responsive systems to eliminating human trafficking.
The other Steering Committee members include Dawn Amano-Ige (Hawaii), Lauren Baker (Massachusetts), Abby Cox (Utah), Donna Edwards (Louisiana), and Susanne Shore (Nebraska).
In this first video in our series of spotlights featuring the Steering Committee members, Ms. Quillen Carney shares her personal childhood experience with trauma and how it motivated her work to break down silos and address trauma in Delaware and throughout the nation. Ms. Quillen Carney leads First Chance Delaware, aimed at ending childhood hunger; promoting early language skills; and advancing effective recognition of, and response to, childhood trauma. In the video, the First Lady is interviewed by Alonna Berry, Pathways to Resilience Advisory Committee member and Delaware’s Statewide Trauma-Informed Care Coordinator.
